Walking tour + Torre Guinigi climb

Walking tour + Torre Guinigi climb

A classic! But unmissable and so rewarding!
We enter in the heart of the city by crossing one of the stately gate along the 17th-century citywalls.
Immediately we are inside the narrow streets of historic center with its comings and goings of people, the elegant shops, the genteel mansions whom doors allow a glimpse of lush insider courtyards.

Close togheter we find a series of sites and monuments of absolute charm: Anfitheatre Square tells us about the Roman Lucca which left a strong trace in the urban layout of the city too; nearby, an solemn facade with a 12th-century gold mosaic tells us that we are in front of an important basilica, San Frediano, dedicated to the bishop and civil leader of early medieval Lucca.

Along the most stylish main street of the entire province of Lucca, we arrive in a astonich a square whose grandeur makes many visitors think that they are in front of the Cathedral … It is instead Piazza San Michele in Foro, the origin nucleus of all Lucca and its history.

We cannot fail to make a small detour from our path with a stop at the statue of Giacomo Puccini! Yes, Puccini was born in Lucca and returned to Lucca for long periods. In July and August the Puccini Festival (67th edition in 2021) takes place in Torre del Lago with an international audience.
And again, retracing our steps, we will discover the beautiful Piazza Grande or Piazza Napoleone and the eighteenth-century theater of Giglio.

Finally, through the narrow streets that in September host one of the richest antique markets in Tuscany, we arrive in front of the Cathedral of Saint Martin, amazing work of art hosting artistic masterworks but even a holy relic venerated for centuries and throughout Europe
On the way back, we will conquer the Guinigi Tower, symbol of the city (famous for its garden on the top), from which we will enjoy an overall view, absolutely memorable.
